Brennan Johnson scored his first senior goal for Lincoln City on Tuesday night and afterwards, the on-loan Nottingham Forest star received a congratulatory message from David Beckham.
The forward is playing extremely well for the League One outfit and netted the Imps’ second goal during a 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.
Johnson has already made eight appearances for the Reds but after falling down the pecking order under Sabri Lamouchi he was sent out on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.
After his goalscoring heroics at Sincil Bank, he took to Instagram to speak of his pride at finding the net for the first time in men’s football – and found himself as the recipient of praise from the legendary England star.
Johnson’s dad, David, was coming through the Manchester United ranks at the same time as the man who went on to play 115 times for the England national team.
It’s not definite how Brennan knows Beckham although, given his message of congratulations, it seems certain the pair’s paths have crossed at some point.
Beckham is currently overseeing things with his MLS franchise Inter Miami and he’s an icon of the English game renowned across the globe.
The former right midfielder served Manchester United with distinction before playing for Real Madrid, PSG, AC Milan and LA Galaxy.
Johnson is a real gem as far as Forest fans are concerned. The hope is that he can cut his teeth in men’s football and return to the City Ground ready to challenge for the first-team.
The academy graduate hasn’t really put a foot wrong during the games he has played but he will certainly benefit from the experience of playing regular senior football.
