Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton has heaped praise on Gary Brazil during an interview with Nottinghamshire Live and has said he will always take an interest in the academy.

The Forest boss has overseen three games in charge of his new club, winning at Blackburn and claiming home draws against Rotherham United and Derby County.

Ryan Yates has started all three games under Hughton, whilst Alex Mighten and Jordan Smith have been in the matchday squads. Joe Worrall is currently injured, whilst Michael Dawson is technically an academy graduate and he is on the fringes.

The future looks bright for Forest and with Brazil recently earning promotion into a new role, the academy looks to be in good hands.

Hughton has no intention of neglecting the club’s emerging talents and had nothing but praise for the man overseeing the academy.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “I’ve known Gary for years. He’s a very good football man.

“I’m delighted he’s got his new role. I don’t think the communication will change.

“I’ve spoken to him a number of times since I’ve been here and that will continue.

Hughton has conceded that his immediate priority is getting results at first-team level, with the Reds in the midst of a big run of games.

Although he won’t be neglecting the club’s development ranks and said it’s a side of the club he’ll always be interested in.

He continued: “You can’t be a manager of a first team and not want the development of the club to be correct. You want academy players to come through and academy players to train with the first team at the right time.

“First and foremost it’s about these next few games, a heavy period of games but I will always take an interest in the academy.”

NFN Verdict – Hughton comments music to the ears of supporters

Plenty of cynical fans of Nottingham Forest have found various things to moan about during recent months.

One thing that does unite the fanbase, however, is the state which the club’s academy is in under Brazil’s stewardship.

The fact that Hughton has recognised its importance will be music to the ears of supporters. They’ll hope to see plenty more talents emerge from the conveyor belt which is showing no sign of letting up.

Results at first-team level are of course vital but supporters will be delighted to hear that the latest manager has no intention of disregarding young talent.
