Nottingham Forest talent has told BBC Radio Lincolnshire of his delight at earning recognition from ex-Manchester United hero David Beckham.
The youngster is on loan at Lincoln City and received praise on Instagram from the ex-England captain after his first senior goal.
Johnson is getting plenty of game time at the LNER Stadium and that can only bode well for the Reds.
The 19-year-old scored the Imps’ second goal against Plymouth and has four assists to his name since checking in from the City Ground.
Beckham came through the United ranks at the same time as Johnson’s dad, David, and is clearly following Brennan closely.
Johnson was quizzed on his praise from the iconic figure prior to Lincoln’s game with Doncaster.
He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: “Yes, it’s special I didn’t really expect it but I was happy he’s seeing what I’m doing and hopefully I can keep it going and keep doing well.”
Johnson has played eight times for the first-team at Forest and he will hope for more opportunities.
His current loan spell is going well with the teenager operating in a right-wing role.
Interestingly Forest aren’t blessed with loads of options out wide and next season could see Johnson really challenge to be a regular.
The academy graduate’s performances for Forest came largely through the middle. Adding the ability to play out wide could enhance his chances of becoming a regular at the City Ground.
Praise from someone of Beckham’s ilk is bound to delight the youngster – although he seems level headed.
Johnson is showing signs of developing into a cracking player and Forest could reap the rewards of this loan spell next season.
