Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton has hinted to Nottinghamshire Live where summer signing Cafu might be able to help his team.

The Portuguese player arrived from Olympiacos during the transfer window and was introduced from the bench against Middlesbrough.

When he checked in the suggestion was that he would play as a defensive holding midfielder but that might not be the case.

Cafu had a chance to rescue an equaliser for Forest late on at the Riverside Stadium and Hughton has suggested he could be an attacking option.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “He’s a different option, as an attacking midfield player.

“He hasn’t had too many opportunities and came in just before I came in – I’m still getting to know him.

“But he’s showed well in training and shown some of his quality. I just felt that in that number 10 position, he would be able to provide something.”

The 27-year-old was part of the deal which saw Tiago Silva sign for the Greek champions.

His arrival was met with some uncertainty, with many feeling the squad didn’t need another midfield option.

Given that Silva and Joao Carvalho have departed, his ability to play in the final third might prove ideal.

Luke Freeman hasn’t had a great deal of joy in the number 10 role yet, encountering similar problems to those who have been utilised before him.

Cafu might just provide Hughton with a different option and there could be more to come from the former Legia Warsaw.

The new Forest boss is still trying to establish what his best team is and getting to know his players’ strengths.

His words on Cafu are interesting and perhaps supporters will soon see what he is all about.
