Nottingham Forest’s three best players against Coventry City

Nottingham Forest finally got a home win under their belt for the 2020/21 campaign – although the 2-1 win over Coventry wasn’t pretty.

Chris Hughton will be delighted to finally claim three points on home soil and the Reds must now kick on.

Following the game, we looked at Forest’s three best players from the contest.

Samba Sow

An absolute battering ram in the first-half as the Malian midfielder capped a return to the side with a strong showing.

Typically, the 31-year-old was booked but rarely it was actually quite unfortunate, with a stray ball from Luke Freeman leading to the caution.

Sow got Forest moving forwards quicker than perhaps Ryan Yates and Jack Colback have in recent weeks.

He tired in the second half, which was to be expected.

On this showing, however, the £640,000 player can still have a big part to play for the Reds this season.

Brice Samba

But for the uncompromising goalkeeper Coventry would have been well out of sight by the time Lyle Taylor tucked home a stoppage time penalty.

Samba made three strong saves in the second half to thwart the Sky Blues in their attempts to edge themselves in front.

The 26-year-old has been edging back to his best in recent weeks and his saves this season have already earned Forest points.

The former Caen stopper has established himself as the club’s number one and on current form that’s the role he will retain.

Scott McKenna

The Coventry goal from a defensive perspective wasn’t great but McKenna was decent throughout the game.

Signed from Aberdeen in the summer, the 23-year-old scored his first goal since moving south, firing Forest ahead in the first half.

The Reds deserved that lead but were forced to battle hard in the second half as Coventry grew into the game.

McKenna looks a shrewd signing for Forest and there is plenty more to come from him.
