Lyle Taylor sent a heartfelt Instagram message to Nottingham Forest supporters and received a complimentary response from Aston Villa star Matty Cash.

The striker took to social media after firing Forest’s late winner from the penalty spot against Coventry on Wednesday evening.

Taylor scored his second goal in the Garibaldi after being fouled by Kyle McFadzean in the closing stages of the contest.

Afterwards, he spoke of his disappointment that no fans were in the ground to see such a moment, feeling that the Trent End would have gone ‘mental’.

Cash left the Reds in the summer but took to Instagram to laud Taylor after his late heroics against the Sky Blues.

The 30-year-old talisman has taken some time to get going in the red of Forest.

With Lewis Grabban now injured though, the goalscoring mantle has fallen firmly on his shoulders.

His late goal gifted Forest a massive three points on Wednesday and they will now look to use the win as a catalyst for more.

Taylor signed on a free transfer during the summer after scoring 11 times for Charlton in the Championship.

His all-action style makes him a constant thorn in the side of opposition defenders and once he gets fully fit he should score more.

Forest fans will be delighted to see Cash is still following the club’s fortunes.

He departed in the summer for Villa and has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Villa have lost their last two games but did win their first four – going top of the division in the early stages.

The £16 million man was quality at Forest and he departed with supporters’ best wishes.
