Former Nottingham Forest ace Greg Halford took to Twitter after yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Swansea City to slam the performance.
The utility man spent three years at the City Ground between 2012 and 2015, playing in a number of positions for the club.
He played 82 times for Forest, scoring eight goals and registering six assists during his time in the East Midlands.
Forest slipped to a third straight defeat yesterday with Connor Roberts scoring the only goal of the game just before half-time.
Halford claimed that he had been looking forward to watching the game – but suggested Forest have a lot of work to do.
Up until the Swansea goal it was an improved performance by the Reds. In truth, the second half was dreadful though, with Forest never testing Freddie Woodman in goal.
Halford has implied that Forest need to dig in until January when Hughton might look to attack the transfer market.
All well in hindsight but the squad at Forest is already seriously bloated and bringing in players might not be quite so simple.
Hughton might need to use all of his Championship expertise in order to revive Forest’s fortunes – but he does deserve time.
Despite some of the players not arriving until the summer, there is clearly a hangover from the events of last season.
For some Forest players it’s time to roll their sleeves up and starting showing they care about dragging themselves out of their current predicament.
Halford’s tweet does suggest that he feels Hughton needs time to sort things out and hopefully the hierarchy echo such a sentiment.
Forest have endured far too much change when it comes to managers and hopefully a change in fortunes is just around the corner for Hughton.
