As much as it pains us to say, Nottingham Forest are staring down the barrel of relegation from the Championship.
The Reds have won just three games during 2020/21 and are currently on a run of six defeats and one draw from their last seven games.
Forest face a relegation six-pointer with Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night and the situation is becoming pretty desperate.
If Chris Hughton’s men are serious about pulling themselves out of their current predicament they simply have to start winning games.
One shining light could be the club’s academy and with the experienced performers not doing the business, Hughton might delve into his youth ranks.
We looked at three players from the club’s academy who could help Forest pull clear of the drop zone.
Alex Mighten
The exciting winger hasn’t been with the academy for a little while but on the basis of only playing four minutes under Hughton, he qualifies.
With Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi both struggling to find any real rhythm, Forest have nothing to lose by throwing Mighten in.
His best performance in a Forest shirt came during a 2-1 defeat to Bristol City in Sabri Lamouchi’s last game in charge.
He has been injured for some time but now fit and firing he has to be worth a shot.

Will Swan
The 20-year-old hasn’t had much chance to stake a proper claim for a place just yet.
He has made two cameo appearances, equating to just 33 minutes of action.
With Lyle Taylor without a goal for seven matches and Lewis Grabban injured, handing Swan a chance to shine might not be such a bad thing.
He has bagged eight goals for the under-23 ranks this season and has to be nearing a first-team start.

Ateef Konate
An interesting one who might be close to the first-team is the French midfielder.
The former Le Havre maestro has been doing great things with the club’s under-23 team and possesses qualities that first-team midfielders don’t.
He is capable of playing in a natural No.8 role and once again that is something which Forest don’t currently have.
Konate has to be worth a shot between now and January and if he impresses he could save Forest a transfer in the mid-season window.
