Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson says he is keen to see out his loan stint with Lincoln City.

The 19-year-old is supposed to be at LNER Stadium for the full 2020/21 campaign, but there have been calls for the club to bring him back in January.

It’s been a productive stint at the League One side so far, with Johnson making 18 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals and making six assists.

His brace against Northampton Town on Saturday has only increased the clamour for a potential early return to the City Ground, but it seems unlikely given the starlet’s comments:

Asked if he wanted to remain for the whole season, he said (quoted by the Nottingham Post): “Yeah, definitely. Obviously, it’s out of my hands but I’m enjoying my time here and I couldn’t be more grateful to the staff who have given me this chance. I’m loving it so far.”

For the best

Things are looking very bright right now for the talented Johnson, and it would perhaps be the wrong move to interfere with his development.

He is getting regular football and currently stands to experience a title push with Lincoln, which is a fantastic thing for him in terms of improving his mentality.

Forest could well benefit from his energy and versatility, but there is that risk he will just end up warming the bench and his growth trajectory will flatten.
