Nottingham Forest starlet Brennan Johnson once again stole the hearts of Lincoln City supporters as they beat Northampton Town 4-0.
The youngster was instrumental in the victory, scoring twice late on to go with an assist claimed earlier in the contest.
Johnson is flying with the Imps and some supporters are keen to see him return to the City Ground in January.
Lincoln are sat joint top of League One at the moment and under Michael Appleton, there is a sense they can become a Championship club.
Following his latest performance, Johnson earned some praise from the city’s local newspaper, Lincolnshire Live
They gave Johnson a 9/10 for his breathtaking display, commenting: “Two superb finishes amind a cracking all-round performance. Hopefully Forest weren’t watching.”
Should Forest recall Johnson?
This really is the million dollar question for Forest boss Chris Hughton.
What must be assessed is whether or not he will continue to develop at the City Ground during the second half of the campaign.
There is absolutely no point in bringing him back to sit on the bench acting as backup to the club’s current options.
Under Appleton he is playing every week, registering goal contributions and ultimately enjoying his football.
Forest shouldn’t get in the way of that for now and for the sake of his development he needs to keep playing.
If Hughton feels he can offer something different to his current stars then a return seems sensible.
At Lincoln he has showcased that he can play in a number of roles and that versatility could help the Forest squad.
Johnson is predominantly right-footed and with lots of left-sided options, he would at least provide some balance.
With that in mind, the 19-year-old gem is providing Hughton with a big conundrum ahead of January.
