Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle several times in the past couple of years.
Nothing has come to fruition previously and now it looks as though the striker could make a move to another top-flight club.
Fulham are interested in the frontman (Daily Mail), with his chances at Newcastle proving restricted in the wake of Callum Wilson’s arrival.
Gayle has also struggled with injury issues and the Magpies could move him on to make room in their squad this month.
Interestingly Al-Duhail, managed by Sabri Lamouchi, are also thought to be keen on the hotshot.
The 31-year-old has played just four times this season, scoring once in Steve Bruce’s team.
With the striker entering the latter years of his career a move to Forest now looks to be off the table.
Gayle was linked with the Reds after his loan spell at West Brom during the 2018/19 campaign.
He helped the Baggies to the play-offs, scoring 24 goals and registering eight assists.
At that point, the £40,000-a-week player might have proved a decent acquisition for Forest.
Could Forest still swoop for Gayle?
It looks as thought that ship has sailed once and for all.
Gayle might have proved a decent signing some years ago but now it’s a link probably best consigned to the record books.
The ex-Crystal Palace man has scored 34 goals in 99 appearances for Newcastle and Fulham would be getting a steady signing.
Gayle will fancy his chances of continuing in the Premier League and his wages would probably price the Reds out anyway.
Forest have Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor both in their thirties and their next addition up front should probably have one eye on the future.
Lamouchi’s interest is intriguing. He was thought to be keen on Lewis Grabban in the summer transfer window and signing Gayle would almost certainly end that interest.
