Nottingham Forest progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2018 as they beat Cardiff City 1-0.

Forest beat Arsenal 4-2 three years ago and this was by no means a similar victory to see the Reds through.

Chris Hughton’s men took the lead in the third minute through Lyle Taylor.

Gaeten Bong showed some energetic play down the left-hand side and his pin-point cross was rifled past Dillion Phillips on the volley.

It was Taylor’s fifth of the season and Forest can now look forward to Monday’s draw.

It was another man who caught the eye for a strong performance, though.

Joe Worrall was the captain for the afternoon and his defending was the catalyst for Forest’s victory.

Alongside Scott McKenna he showcased his talents and led the team by example against the Bluebirds.

Worrall has been linked with a move away from Forest this month.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is a keen admirer but on this showing, Hughton must try and keep his prized asset.

The 23-year-old made a crucial tackle right at the death and ensured Forest saw out the victory.

Supporters were quick to rave about him on Twitter following the contest.

Here is what the Forest fan base had to say about the performance of Worrall.
