Nottingham Forest are set to rival Derby County to sign midfielder Ben Whiteman and as a result, Preston North End fans are getting extremely worried.

Last week, it seemed clear that the maestro would move to Deepdale and some reports claimed a bid had been accepted by Doncaster Rovers.

The Athletic claim that Derby and Forest are keen to enter the race to sign the 24-year-old performer and that should delight their supporters.

Whiteman has scored five goals and claimed five assists this season and has played some of his best football under boss Darren Moore.

He is the captain of the South Yorkshire-based side and Rovers look powerless to prevent him from leaving this month.

Forest are desperate for some creativity in the middle of the park and as a result, Whiteman could prove a shrewd addition to Chris Hughton.

Preston fans are now extremely concerned that their club has missed the boat regarding the marvel and appear deeply concerned.

A few days ago it appeared they had a free run at signing the former Sheffield United man.

It is thought the interest is rife amid interest from several other Championship clubs. With that in mind, interested parties will need to act quickly to get a deal over the line and land the midfielder.

Whiteman would be a solid signing for any second-tier outfit and Forest supporters will want their club to move quickly.

A glance at Twitter has highlighted some pretty disgruntled Preston supporters. Many are concerned that they’re set to lose out and see the player head to Forest.

Here is what they are saying about Forest’s interest in the League One star as the interest intensifies.
