Nottingham Forest midfielder Cafu has been named in the Portuguese Team of the Week compiled by football website Sofa Score.

The 27-year-old was a standout performer as the Reds defeated Millwall 3-1 at the City Ground on Saturday.

Cafu was forced to wait patiently for a chance to shine since arriving on loan from Olympiacos in October.

He featured for the first time as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough but then sat out for five matches.

Cafu has now proved himself, however, starting the last 10 matches under Chris Hughton’s management.

Saturday was arguably his best performance at the City Ground to date as he starred in the No.10 role.

As a result, he was named by Sofa Score in their Team of the Week containing only Portuguese players from across Europe.

Cafu will hope to keep his place in the team tonight when Neil Warnock brings his Middlesbrough team to the City Ground.

The energetic performer is on loan at the club until the end of the season from Olympiacos and he’ll hope to continue impressing.

His inclusion in the Portuguese Team of the Week saw him named alongside players from Wolves, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Has Cafu been a surprise package?

It has to be said that he has during the last month or so.

Like most overseas players he took a little while to overcome the physical demands of the game in England.

After a strong debut against Watford, he dropped off for a few games in a central midfield role.

Since moving to a No.10 position, however, Forest haven’t tasted defeat, with Cafu claiming two assists.

Some critics still aren’t convinced.

Anyone still of that belief though is clearly holding the fact that Cafu has come from Olympiacos against him.

Some supporters aren’t overly happy the arrangement involving the two Evangelos Marinakis-owned clubs.

Cafu has played a starring role for a few weeks now though and Hughton will hope that continues.
