Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The Reds are keen to beef up their ranks ahead of Monday’s deadline.

Gosling is out of contract in the summer and the Cherries are willing to allow the maestro to leave this month.

The 30-year-old has scored twice in 18 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth this season.

He hasn’t featured during the last five games in all competitions though and could be on his way to the City Ground.

Chris Hughton is in the middle of an injury crisis in midfield.

Ryan Yates has joined Harry Arter and Jack Colback in the treatment room, leaving Forest short of options.

Samba Sow is currently fit but has history when it comes to picking up niggles, whilst Cafu has been inconsistent.

Hughton has signed Gosling previously during his time as Newcastle boss.

He took him from Everton to St James’ Park and called him a ‘high-energy player’ upon his arrival.

Talks are now seemingly at an advanced stage and Forest will hope to tie a deal up quickly.

What can Forest expect from Gosling?

If he stays fit and continues his recent form then Forest can expect a solid, hard-working addition to their ranks.

The 30-year-old perhaps isn’t the most exciting addition the club could make but in their current predicament, they could have targeted worse.

The key for any new recruit is that they can hit the ground running.

As Gosling has been playing regularly for Bournemouth this season, that aspect shouldn’t be a problem.

Given their league position, Forest will be limited as to who they can target this month.

Time will tell as to whether he can do a job for the Reds but if he comes in and helps the club to survival, there won’t be too many complaints.
