Segunda Division outfit Rayo Vallecano are set to announce the signing of Nottingham Forest attacker Miguel Angel Guerrero.
Reports in Spain suggest that a free transfer is on the horizon for the player who arrived from Olympiacos in the summer.
Guerrero has made 11 appearances for the Reds but wasn’t even on the bench on Saturday.
With Glenn Murray and Filip Krovinovic checking in and Luke Freeman now back from injury, his chances will be limited.
Vallecano are fourth in the second tier of Spanish football and are bidding to reach La Liga once again.
Guerrero looks set to end a short stay at the City Ground by heading back to Spain.
He has spent time previously with Sporting Gijon, Leganes and Albacete, enjoying plenty of success.
It hasn’t quite worked out for him at Forest and once again this is an overseas signing that hasn’t quite worked out.
If Forest choose to release Guerrero he can sign for the Spanish outfit after tonight’s deadline, if not a loan deal will need to be agreed.
With time ticking towards the 11pm deadline, it does seem as though any further business that takes place will be players leaving the club.
Where has it gone wrong for Guerrero?
Well, game time hasn’t helped him but he has largely looked short of the required quality.
The 30-year-old enjoyed a strong performance in a 2-0 win over Wycombe but ultimately he couldn’t do it on a frequent basis.
This should be a message to the people behind the scenes at Forest when it comes to recruitment.
The Reds have wasted six months wages on a player who is now set to depart after a handful of appearances.
Forest’s recruitment leaves a lot to be desired.
The summer is going to be a key time for the football club and the Reds must ensure they start learning from mistakes like the signing of Guerrero.
