Les Parry has been explaining Manchester United’s decision to send James Garner to Nottingham Forest.
The academy performance manager has said that Chris Hughton was a major factor in the Red Devils choosing to send Garner to the City Ground.
Forest have won both games since Garner came into the team and he already seems a hit with the club’s supporters.
Garner spent the first half of this season on loan at Watford but a change in manager bumped him down the pecking order.
Parry has the utmost respect for Hughton and says the decision was an easy one.
He told the club’s official website: “The manager was really keen on him. He played about 40 minutes of his last six games at Watford but Forest came up and we were keen to swap.
“It’s a fantastic move for him. Chris Hughton was one of the attractions for us selecting Forest.
“All of our coaches, and myself, have great respect for Chris. He has a great reputation for the way he treats players, which is important for us.
“On that of that, he really fancied James as a player and we think he’ll be treated and educated well. He’s a good player and he will do well there.”
These comments certainly bode well and highlights the sort of person Forest appointed as their manager.
Hughton is a reputable figure in the English game and that should put the Reds in good shape for the summer.
Could this be the start of a blossoming relationship with United?
Well, that wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, would it?
United have some quality youngsters and it has to be a good thing if they view Hughton as a manager to develop them.
Of course, Forest need balance and supporters will point to the fact that the Nigel Doughty academy is brimming with talent.
The Reds shouldn’t be stocking their squad full of loan recruits from Old Trafford but one or two could certainly help.
Garner has started well to life at Forest and there could be more to come from United next season.
