Nottingham Forest youngster Jordan Gabriel is showing signs of promise on loan at Blackpool, earning praise for his performance on Saturday.
The Tangerines went to Portsmouth at the weekend and a late Jerry Yates goal saw Blackpool leave with all three points.
Gabriel was handed another chance to impress by boss Neil Critchley and he didn’t disappoint.
The young Forest right-back once again lined-up in his natural position and helped his teammates to a clean sheet.
After Saturday’s game he earned rave reviews from the Blackpool Gazette who scored him 8/10 for his efforts.
The player ratings piece claimed: “He continued his impressive recent form. Covered every blade of grass and had the beating of Pompey’s winger.”
Marcus Holness was the man neutralised by Gabriel at the weekend.
He has been one of League One’s strong performers, with eight goals and seven assists to his name this season.
That alone highlights how decent his performance was at the weekend.
Does Forest chance beckon for Gabriel?
Prior to the weekend’s game, The Mirror reported that Chris Hughton was preparing to give the 22-year-old a chance next season.
Cyrus Christie is only on loan at Forest and with doubts over his £20,000-a-week wages, the club could look for alternatives.
Gabriel played in the Carabao Cup and in the first league game of 2020/21 and his performance on Saturday caps a good week for the youngster.
Forest fans would dearly love to see the academy graduate get a chance. He will have learnt his trade out on loan and it looks an ideal option for next season.
He has now played 12 League One matches this season and is getting better with each game.
The Forest squad could have a very different feel to it next season – and that could see Gabriel earn another chance to impress.
