Nottingham Forest defender Cyrus Christie has been named in the Championship Team of the Week for his performance in Tuesday’s win over Rotherham United.
The 28-year-old has been in decent for during the last few games after initially struggling to make an impact at the City Ground.
Some supporters had viewed Christie as the weak link in the Forest team earlier in the campaign. During the last few games, however, he seems to have turned a sizeable corner.
In midweek he enjoyed arguably his best all-round performance since arriving on loan from Fulham during the summer transfer window.
During the second half he produced a tremendous block to snuff out a certain Rotherham goal and was also strong going forward.
Christie is only on loan at the City Ground but he is out of contract during the summer.
His £20,000-a-week contract at Craven Cottage will expire and the 28-year-old could be signed without a transfer fee.
Ahead of tomorrow’s East Midlands-derby, Rams midfielder Graeme Shinnie was also named in the Team of the Week.
Could Christie earn permanent deal?
Despite his recent form, it has to be said that he probably won’t extend his Forest stay.
Chris Hughton didn’t sign Christie and he might see it as an area where he can dip into the club’s youth ranks.
Jordan Gabriel will return from Blackpool in the summer, as will Jayden Richardson who has been on loan at Forest Green.
With Carl Jenkinson also still at the club, right-back is probably an area where Forest are well-stocked.
Christie’s performances have improved of late considerably.
Circumstances could dictate, however, that Forest choose not to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
