Nottingham Forest fans were up in arms last night as former loan player Diogo Goncalves nearly dumped Arsenal out of Europe.

The 24-year-old lined up for Benfica as they took on the Gunners in the Europa League.

He cancelled out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s opening goal with a stunning free-kick that had Forest fans gobsmacked on Twitter.

Goncalves endured a pretty drab loan spell at Forest during the 2018/19 campaign.

He managed just 10 appearances, with his only league start coming in a 1-1 draw against Bristol City on the opening day of the season.

Goncalves has found his way somewhat though and is now a regular in Benfica squads.

The player who has an £18 million release clause in his contract has managed 17 appearances for the Portuguese giants during 2020/21.

Last night was his first goal for the Benfica first-team and it might just hand him more opportunities to impress.

The youngster didn’t really get a chance at Forest and was often tasked with making an impact from the bench.

Following his performance last night, supporters took to Twitter to discuss the youngster’s time at the City Ground.

The reactions were mixed to say the least and here is a selection of Tweets after Goncalves’ banger.
