Brennan Johnson enjoyed another memorable afternoon for Lincoln City, with the Nottingham Forest youngster scoring and claiming an assist.
The Imps thrashed Crewe Alexandra 3-0 to take another step closer to promotion into the Championship.
Johnson’s form has been remarkable during his time at the League One outfit and he looks set for a bright future.
He has bagged eight goals and and claimed 12 assists playing in a number of advanced roles.
After the game, the 19-year-old earned some praise from Lincolnshire Live for his solid performance.
The player ratings piece awarded him 9/10 for his efforts and claimed: “He was already a worthy man of the match contender before his goal, which was a cracker.
“Deployed down the right, he ran the Crewe defence ragged and did some good work defensively too.”
Lincoln are currently two points behind leaders Hull City but have played two games fewer than the Tigers.
It would complete a remarkable rise for the Imps if they were to win promotion and Michael Appleton has done a great job.
With Johnson playing as he is, very few would back against them winning promotion this season.
Will the youngster earn a Forest chance?
It would be a travesty if Johnson doesn’t get a first-team opportunity next season.
He has played eight times for the Reds so far but hasn’t had a regular run in the side.
With a full year in League One under his belt next season could be the one in which he makes an impact at Forest.
The ability to play on either flank or through the middle as a No.10 will help his chances and he could be a useful addition to Chris Hughton’s team.
Forest have to stop their haphazard approach when it comes to recruitment and utilising the academy could help with that.
That could bode well for Johnson’s future at the City Ground.
