Liverpool youngster Layton Stewart ruptured his ACL on Saturday and Forest star Alex Mighten has sent him a sympathetic Instagram post.

The 18-year-old twisted awkwardly during a 1-1 draw for the under-23s against West Ham and will require surgery.

Mighten was an unused substitute at the weekend as Forest drew 1-1 with Reading at the City Ground.

He knows Stewart having played alongside him for England at youth level and was keen to lift his spirits.

Following an emotional Instagram post by the Liverpool youngster, Mighten responded in heartfelt fashion.

Mighten, 18, has probably been somewhat unfortunate so far during 2020/21.

After starting the season pretty well plenty of supporters had hoped to see more of the youngster in the Forest team.

Chris Hughton has largely preferred tried and tested experienced options though and he’s had to remain patient.

Mighten has helped himself to two goals and an assist from 14 Championship appearances but has only started seven matches.

The 18-year-old’s time will, of course, come for the Reds but some fans are growing impatient.

Joe Lolley hobbled off with a hamstring problem on Saturday and that will bump Mighten up the pecking order.

With Norwich and Brentford to come before the international break, Forest don’t have a great deal to lose against the promotion hopefuls.

As a result, at least one of those games could represent the ideal time to give Mighten another run out.
