Brennan Johnson’s loan spell at Lincoln City has proved a massive success during 2020/21.

The Nottingham Forest gem has been one of the standout performers for the Imps, scoring eight goals and claiming 12 assists.

Johnson has frequently earned rave reviews from supporters, whilst boss Michael Appleton has called him ‘top-notch’, during an interview with Lincolnshire Live.

The 19-year-old would be welcomed back at Lincoln next season. Forest, however, will have other ideas, with Chris Hughton set to run the rule over him.

The Imps were steamrolling towards promotion at one point. In recent weeks they have slipped down the table to fourth and the play-offs are perhaps more realistic.

Forest’s creative options need a rethink and Johnson looks like an ideal player to use next season. He can play on the right, or the left and even in the hole as a No.10.

Meanwhile, one player who might be looking for another loan move is Will Swan.

The academy striker joined Port Vale in January and has scored one goal in six outings for the League Two side.

Of his six appearances, just three have come in the way of starts. Perhaps more worryingly, boss Darrell Clarke has left him out of his last two squads.

Forest are likely to target a striker in the summer who can come in and make an immediate impact in the team.

With that in mind, another loan looks idea for Swan.

Lincoln looks perfect for striker

Although the Imps would dearly love Johnson for another season, Forest should politely decline and offer them Swan instead.

The 20-year-old has made two appearances in the first-team at the City Ground but has scored goals for fun at under-23 level.

Like Johnson he would arrive with a big point to prove and ultimately, he knows where the back of the net is.

Lincoln, and Appleton in particular, have a strong track record of getting the best out of young talents.

That would certainly help Swan and after successful stints for Johnson and Tyler Walker, they could make it a hat-trick with the young talisman.
