Forest could be handed a welcome boost in their quest to keep hold of defender Joe Worrall.

Burnley are long-term admirers of the Hucknall-born enforcer but they have other irons in the fire it would seem.

According to the Daily Mail, the Clarets are preparing a £10 million bid for Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry.

Burnley are known for their huge sums when it comes to spending and signing the 23-year-old will surely end their interest in Worrall.

West Brom have also been linked with a move previously. They are facing relegation, however, and that could scupper their plans.

A report by The Mirror in January claimed that Forest would want at least £10 million for their defender.

Based on his form this season though surely the club will have significantly increased the figure at which they’d consider selling their prized asset.

Worrall has spent time out injured this season with a broken foot and more recently with a cracked rib.

The 24-year-old has still managed 25 appearances, however, captaining the team on 12 occasions.

Fry is another talented Championship defender and Burnley seem to have switched their attentions to the North East.

That would be music to the ears of Forest supporters, with keeping Worrall an apparent necessity in their eyes this summer.

The uncompromising defender is strong in the tackle, reads the game well and leads by example from the back.

Perhaps above all though he has a genuine love for the football club and that has been showcased with his impressive form this season.

Can Forest keep Worrall?

From a supporters perspective, the hope will be that Forest can keep him from the clutches of the Premier League.

Make no bones about it, the longer Forest remain outside of the top-flight, the harder it will be to continue keeping their top players.

Despite that, Worrall is unlikely to seek a move away from the City Ground.

His heart is at Forest and he seems like the sort of character who would take great pride in restoring the club to the country’s top table once again.

This news regarding Burnley and Fry looks positive and Forest fans will be rooting for that deal to go through.
