The father of Nottingham Forest owned player Nicholas Ioannou has suggested that his son would love to stay at Aris beyond the summer.

The left-back joined the Greek top-flight team during the January transfer window.

He managed just five games for the Reds, failing to make an appearance after being sent off against Luton in October.

Ioannou didn’t look too bad when called upon and was certainly a fiery character.

It would seem as though the ex-Manchester United trainee has no designs to come back to the City Ground.

His dad, Dmitris, has been speaking to Greek press outlet Sportime and he suggested Ioannou is happy with Aris.

He said: “He is happy with the facilities, with the team level that is high.

“Nicholas belongs to Nottingham Forest, he is positive about staying at Aris but the two teams must find each other.

“Of course, it also depends on his appearances, on whether the people of Aris will be satisfied and will want to keep him.”

Is there a future for Ioannou?

It’s probably fair to say that Forest need to move on from the Cyprus international in the summer.

If Aris are keen to keep him and are willing to offer Forest a fee, it’s a deal that would make lots of sense.

Hughton has Tyler Blackett and Gaetan Bong tied to contracts for next season to compete for a place at left-back.

Yuri Ribeiro is out of contract and at this stage there’s no saying he will pen another deal.

Blackett has looked decent of late though and with a full pre-season under Hughton, he could be first choice during 2021/22.

Forest will still need to streamline their squad and as a result, if Ioannou wants to stay in Greece they should perhaps let him.
