Nottingham Forest are one of several Championship clubs to show an interest in Rochdale striker Stephen Humphrys.
The exclusive has come from The72 who claims a source has told them of vast Championship interest.
Preston, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn, Bristol City and Stoke are all thought to be eyeing a move for the talisman.
Humphrys has scored 10 times during 2020/21, despite Rochdale languishing at the bottom of the League One table.
Their relegation looks extremely likely and that could see them face some questions from clubs regarding their prized asset.
The 23-year-old has been at Rochdale since September. He signed from Fulham after spending time at Southend and Scunthorpe on loan.
It has to be said that this link should require a pinch of salt at the moment.
The72 aren’t renowned for their exclusives and it remains to be seen just how much interest there is from Forest.
It is pretty clear that Chris Hughton would dearly like to reinforce his striking options in the summer.
Glenn Murray could leave, whilst Lyle Taylor doesn’t seem to be in favour with the boss right now.
That would leave Lewis Grabban and although he scored a stunner on Monday, he is now 33-years-old.
A younger option could be sought and a player like Humphrys could benefit from a year learning from Grabban.
Would the Rochdale man be a good signing for Forest?
It’d certainly be a risky one from the Reds’ point of view.
In 102 games in League One, he has found the net just 27 times and would perhaps be considered a late bloomer.
Forest do need a striker to come into the ranks during the summer and Humphrys is unlikely to cost a great deal.
Rochdale might want him off the wage budget if they drop into League Two and a small sum could be enough to land him.
There are better options out there, however, and Forest will need to adopt a meticulous approach to their recruitment this summer.
