A report by The Sun could have handed Nottingham Forest hope in their quest to sign James Garner from Manchester United on loan next season.
The 20-year-old has excelled at the City Ground during the second half of 2020/21. He arrived after having a temporary deal with Watford terminated in January.
He has scored three goals for Forest in 15 outings and his overall play has been a joy to behold at times.
Now, The Sun claim that Manchester United are set to hand the youngster a new deal ahead of next season.
It also says that they’d like to get him on loan to a club aboard – but suggest they would consider another Championship loan if not.
That offers Forest hope that they can get the youngster back to the City Ground and into their squad for the 2021/22 campaign.
Boss Chris Hughton has been mightily impressed by the youngster during his time at Forest. He’s grown at the club and shows maturity way beyond his tender years.
Forest would dearly like to add him to their ranks, although they will be under no illusions that it could prove tricky.
It seems likely that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take a look at him during pre-season training at United.
After that it’s likely that Garner will head out on loan and the Red Devils must be happy with his progress at Forest.
Hope for Hughton
Getting Garner back to the City Ground for next season would be a massive coup for the club.
Forest will have very different ambitions during the next campaign and they’ll need to add the relevant quality.
Garner ticks all the boxes when it comes to a player capable of playing in the division and his return would make for a strong summer.
Despite not being able to attend games, supporters have waxed lyrical about the United youngster from the comfort of their homes.
The latest reports offer a glimmer of hope that next season they could see him strutting his stuff in the flesh on Trentside.
