He has made one substitute appearance for the first-team, coming on as a substitute against the Rams in 2019.

Dawson looks set to be offered a new contract at Glanford Park but might welcome the possibility of an exit.

With that in mind, Forest might be wise to enter the race to sign the talented youngster.

Can Michael persuade Joey?

With Dawson in place at the City Ground, the Reds could have a better chance of landing the striker than Derby or Celtic.

The Forest defender holds the football club close to his heart and his nephew must be aware of that.

Forest entering the race to land the youngster would surely be a move that would interest the striker in the summer.

The club’s academy produces players year after year and he’d surely recognise a clear pathway to first-team football.

Forest could ask their veteran defender to get in the ear of the 17-year-old and try his best to get him to pen terms at the City Ground.

It seems likely that Joey would love to emulate the career his uncle has had and surely Michael would provide a glowing reference of Forest.

It would seem a shame that Dawson heads to another club without the Reds ever declaring their interest.

Forest have an ambition to achieve category one status for their academy and the hope will be to attract the very best youngsters.

Joey is uncompromising, strong and ultimately knows where the back of the net is.

At 17 he looks set for a really bright future and Forest would be wise to call on Michael to tempt the gem into signing for the Reds.
