Legendary Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore has delivered a passionate rant regarding the European Super League on Good Morning Britain.

Twelve founding clubs are forming a breakaway competition, selling their souls to the mercy of a bucket-load of cash.

Liverpool, both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are the six English clubs who have signed up to enter the competition.

It is suggested that the European Super League will begin with 12 founding members later this year. Three other teams will join for the inaugural season.

The tournament will run in midweek and it’s claimed at this stage that each club will continue to take part in their respective domestic league.

“I played for Stafford Rangers in the old Conference, Southend United in the Championship, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa – three former winners of what is now the Champions League.

“I echo the comments of all football fans when they say they are saddened, disgusted, particularly with the gatekeepers; Manchester United and Liverpool.

“I will be quite frank, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham, there’s nothing super about them in their recent history other than having money.

“The big two should know better. UEFA, FIFA, the Premier League and La Liga today should be expunging all of their titles, kick them out and tell them they’re not welcome.”

Dark day for football as we know it

With Collymore’s notion, Forest could become one of a unique group of clubs in England to have won a European trophy.

It does seem unlikely that records will be expunged but the announcement makes it a dark day for the sport we know and love.

It remains to be seen what stance Evangelos Marinakis takes on the competition.

His other club Olympiacos are regulars in European competition. They could compete for one of the annual wildcard places on offer for the competition.

Statements are starting to emerge from lots of Football League clubs. As a result, it’ll be interesting to see what Forest have to say.
