Ex-Nottingham Forest youngster Patrick Bamford has slammed the proposal of a European Super League after Leeds drew 1-1 with Liverpool last night.

The striker hit the crossbar in the second half and was unlucky not to add to his goal tally for the campaign.

Afterwards, he wasn’t off target though, hitting the nail firmly on the head when asked about the possibility of a European Super League.

Both Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are six English sides considering walking away from the Premier League.

A new midweek competition is being proposed and although Florentino Perez claims the domestic game will be protected, the Premier League could kick them out.

Bamford thinks it’s pretty alarming and isn’t a fan of the idea in the slightest.

He told Leeds Live: “We’ve just seen pretty much what every else has seen on Twitter and stuff. It’s amazing the things they’re talking about, I can’t quite comprehend it, it’s amazing the amount of uproar that comes into the game when pockets are being hit.

“We can’t quite believe it, we’re in shock. I haven’t seen one football fan who’s happy about the decision.

“Football is ultimately for the fans. Without fans the game is nothing. I think it’s important we stand our ground and show that football is for the fans.”

Not everyday Forest will agree with a Leeds player

Prior to their promotion, Forest and the Yorkshire-based club had some memorable games with each other.

After Derby, the Reds love to beat Leeds and it’s fair to say their supporters can be pretty self-righteous at times.

Bamford here, however, will earn a lot of respect from football supporters across the country and the fact he’s an ex-Red will warm the hearts of supporters.

Forest had to sell the youngster at a time when the club was nearing financial ruin.

He left for Chelsea in 2012 and in truth, he’s never looked back really.

The academy graduate made just two appearances for Forest and signed for the Blues for £2 million.

This season he’s found the net 14 times and has been touted for an England call-up before the season is out.

Forest fans won’t be throwing their weight behind Leeds winning football matches any time soon.

However, it’s fair to say that the support for their striker’s comments will be unanimous across the football community.
