Former Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash endured a rare off night on Wednesday as Aston Villa lost 2-1 to Manchester City.
The Reds academy graduate was sent off in the second half, collecting a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Phil Foden.
Cash has been a mainstay in the team this season but boss Dean Smith told Birmingham Live that words were had with the right-back.
He said: “He’ll be down and he’ll also be down with the ear-full he got off me in the dressing room after.
“He’ll learn. He’s a young lad and it’s his first year in the Premier League. I think he’ll be a super player but it was reckless and stupid.”
Cash has taken really well to life in the Premier League. He’s made 25 appearances and registered two assists, spending the season playing right-back.
It’s crazy to think that he only had one full season in defence before earning a £16 million transfer to the top-flight.
Cash was seemingly in the Team of the Week every week during 2019/20 and his form at Villa won’t be surprising to Forest fans.
Nobody could begrudge Cash a shot at Premier League stardom.
He excelled at Forest and made 141 appearances for the club after emerging through the youth ranks.
Cash is only 23 and looks like enjoying a sound career at top-flight level.
Villa fans have been raving about his performances this season and rightly so.
Last night was a moment of madness that he’ll learn from but that doesn’t take the gloss off a very impressive season for the ex-Forest man.
