Former defender Mark Wilson has told the Celtic Huddle Podcast that the Hoops are keen on signing Nottingham Forest-linked Charlie Wyke.
The Sunderland talisman has been in red-hot form during 2020/21 as the Black Cats chase promotion to the Championship.
Keith Downie of Sky Sports tweeted earlier this week that Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Millwall were interested in the player.
Wyke has bagged 29 goals for the Black Cats this season but will become a free agent during the summer.
The 28-year-old has been something of a late bloomer and should he earn a move to the second tier in the summer, it’d be his first foray into the Championship.
Wyke also boasts Carlisle, Bradford, Hartlepool and AFC Wimbledon among his former clubs.
Wilson has now dropped the revelation on his latest podcast that Wyke is wanted by the Parkhead-based club in the summer.
He told the Celtic Huddle Podcast: “It’s understood that Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke is on a list of potential summer signings.
“Looking into him, he’s scored 30 goals this season in League One. He’s 28 and he’s available on a free.”
Would Wyke be ideal for Forest?
At 28 and with no Championship experience to speak of he would represent a risk.
He has, however, been fantastic in front of goal and on a free he might just be worth a small gamble.
Wyke wouldn’t command a massive salary and he’d check-in at a new club with some momentum from the current campaign.
If he does sign, Forest should certainly go for a younger option too.
Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor are over thirty and some younger legs would certainly be welcomed.
If Celtic enter the fray, Forest could be powerless anyway but after a successful season, it’s easy to see why clubs are so keen.
