Nottingham Forest could offer Yuri Ribeiro a new contract in the coming weeks, according to The Telegraph.

The Reds are preparing to say goodbye to no fewer than six players though as Chris Hughton shuffles the pack.

Portuguese defender Ribeiro could be in luck though. The 24-year-old is set to be offered fresh terms after two years at the City Ground.

Michael Dawson might be offered the chance to stay on in a coaching capacity; although that will depend on if the 37-year-old is ready to retire.

It’s not such good news for five other players, however. Glenn Murray, Michael Hefele, Samba Sow, Sammy Ameobi and Abdoulaye Diallo are all set to depart.

It will delight supporters to see Ribeiro potentially earn himself a new contract.

The youngster arrived from Benfica and has shown enough to suggest he could develop into a decent full-back.

During 2019/20, the energetic performer was very good as Forest just missed out on a place in the end of season play-offs.

This season has been more of a struggle, with game time proving harder to come by.

Ribeiro has played just 25 times in the Championship, with Gaetan Bong and Tyler Blackett fighting for his shirt.

The defender did play the last three games of the season, however and Hughton could now offer him fresh terms to stay at the club.

Does Ribeiro deserve an extension?

He probably does and it’s fair to say he’s the best left-back currently at the football club.

The Portuguese performer is determined and although he has his flaws, he’s proved capable at Championship level.

With Bong likely to be allowed to leave and doubts over Blackett’s fitness, Forest would be wise not to let another left-back depart.

Even if it’s another short-term deal for the performer, the Reds would be wise to offer him an extension.
