Nottingham Forest transfer plans could spell bad news for Lyle Taylor

Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton will have some clear transfer plans this summer – and they could be bad news for Lyle Taylor.

The Reds boss has made no secret of his desire to add some firepower to his ranks; after Forest found goals hard to come by during 2020/21.

All of the early speculation ahead of the transfer window has linked strikers with moves to the City Ground.

Luke Jephcott, Jerry Yates, Joe Piggott, Charlie Wyke have all been linked since the January transfer window.

Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom has also been mentioned. That one, however, looks a clear indication that silly season is upon us and some reports have quashed the link.

Although nothing is close yet, it does seem pretty conclusive that Forest will be linked with plenty of strikers.

At least one will be added before the season starts and that isn’t going to bode well for Taylor.

The 31-year-old arrived at the City Ground on a free transfer during last summer after his Charlton contract expired.

After scoring 11 goals during the 2019/20 season, it looked like a shrewd investment on the face of things.

Taylor has tormented Forest twice during the campaign, scoring in both fixtures and causing plenty of problems.

For whatever reason, things just haven’t really got going for the striker.

He finished the season with five goals during his first season in the East Midlands and often struggled for game time.

Taylor did only start 17 times and he won’t have been happy with that figure – he’ll certainly want to play more often next season.

His chances of doing that with Lewis Grabban at the club and the prospect of a new player being added look remote at best.

What next for Taylor?

It’s not inconceivable that Taylor will stay at the City Ground but he could have clubs after him.

Lee Bowyer got the best out of him at Charlton and he might fancy taking him to Birmingham for next season.

With two years remaining on his deal, however, Forest will command a decent fee for him.

As a result, he could decide to stay at Forest with the intention of making it impossible for Hughton to leave him out.

His chances do look slim though ahead of next season and the players linked with the club so far won’t make pleasant reading for Taylor.
