The Hull Daily Mail claims that Hull City are unlikely to pursue Nottingham Forest target Dion Charles this summer.

The Accrington talisman has caught the eye during the 2020/21 campaign, smashing 20 goals for the League One outfit.

Forest will still face fierce competition for the talisman though. Brentford, Cardiff and Rotherham United are all in the race to land him.

Charles recently earned international recognition, earning a call-up to the Northern Ireland squad for a game against the USA.

It seems likely that Hull’s budget will rule them out of the reckoning for the striker, with Accrington valuing him around the £1 million mark.

Charles, 25, has been with Stanley since signing from non-league outfit Southport in the summer of 2019.

In 89 appearances for the club he’s scored 29 goals and it’s fair to say he’s proved something of a late bloomer.

Forest are in desperate need of some firepower during the summer. Only Derby County scored fewer goals than the Reds last season and that needs addressing.

Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor are both in their thirties now and a younger striker will perhaps be sought.

Given the calibre of competition for Charles’ signature Forest might need to act quickly if they want to land the 20-goal man.

Will Forest sign Charles?

Given that plenty of clubs are linked with him, it does feel as though his agent is hard at work with this one.

Having scored 20 times last season it would be no surprise to see Forest look at him but Chris Hughton will know who he wants to sign.

It will please supporters that the lower leagues appear to be a market Forest are keen to shop in during the summer.

There are some real gems further down the pyramid and a meticulous search will take place for a new striker.

If Forest are interested in Charles, Hull pulling out of the race will certainly help things.
