Nottingham Forest have announced their retained list and Michael Dawson has been released after three years at the City Ground.
It hasn’t proved an overly fruitful second spell at the club for the player who came through the youth academy.
He leaves with the utmost respect from the supporters, however, and as a model professional who always gave his all.
Dawson made 90 starts for the Reds across two spells for the Reds. He left the first time around to join Tottenham where he spent nine years.

During a solid career, he made 286 appearances in the Premier League and claimed four England caps.
His return to Forest in 2018 seemed a match made in heaven. Who better to lead the club back into the Premier League than one of their own.
It never transpired though and during his second spell at the club, he’s played just 32 times.
When he has been called upon he’s largely been good but injuries haven’t helped his case for more games.
Dawson also made 132 appearances for Hull City and helped them win promotion to the Premier League.
Recently Nottingham Forest’s chairman Nicholas Randall made a presentation to Dawson to thank him for his service.
Forest supporters emotional regarding Dawson exit
Following today’s news, Forest supporters have taken to Twitter to thank the centre-back for his efforts.
To fans of a certain age, Dawson will go down as one of the finest defenders to play for the club.

He epitomised what playing for the club should be about and very few have shown the professionalism he has.
At 37 the time is clearly right but that hasn’t stopped supporters getting all sentimental – and rightly so.
Here is what the fan base had to say on the back of today’s big news.
Shame Daws didn’t get to play more games in his second stint back at the club but I’m sure every Forest fan wishes him the best of luck for the future👍

Daws is, and always will be, a club legend. Shame to see Ameobi go. Thought he was good for us and deserved another season. I liked Riberio and Sow so it’s a shame to see them leave as well. We should try and get Garner back but the rest can go back to be fair.

Sad Dawson didn’t get more game time but we were overloaded with centre backs. As for the rest, we can do better and achieved nothing with them. Move on and find better!

All the best Daws. The last remaining player of my favourite child hood Forest side. Quality
