Nottingham Forest are in talks with Manchester United over a second loan move for James Garner, according to The Athletic.
The central midfielder was superb during a loan spell for the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, scoring four times in 19 appearances.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a decision to make over how he views the youngster’s future. The 20-year-old is rated highly by the Red Devils.
It seems clear at this stage that the United boss wants to assess his player during pre-season before making a firm call.
Garner though is thought to have enjoyed his time at Forest, according to the report, and that could bode well.
The Reds handed him his chance to play regular first-team action and that could put the club in good shape to get him back.
Garner had a tremendous passing radar and caught the eye from his very first appearance.
Arguably his finest moment came when he netted against Derby County, whilst he also scored a sublime goal against QPR.
The ball looks to be in United’s court, although the Reds are desperately trying to secure him again.

Getting the United youngster back for a second spell did seem a long shot and it might still be an outside bet.
If he impresses for United then there’s every reason Solskjaer will hand him a chance.
Funnily enough United not winning the Europa League could help Forest in a bizarre twist of fate.
The Red Devils are desperate for a big trophy and as a result, they could now pursue some big-name recruits.
That could force Garner back down the pecking order and bolster Forest’s chance of snaring the player.
Hughton knows he must start next season well and completing the signing of Garner would enhance the club’s chances of success.
