Nottingham Forest fans discuss future of Joao Carvalho on Twitter

The Joao Carvalho predicament is one that could stare Nottingham Forest in the face again this summer.

A talented No.10, the Portuguese record signing was allowed to join Almeria on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.

The Spanish second-tier outfit have failed in their promotion quest and a permanent deal now seems unlikely.

That could leave Carvalho in limbo. He will return to Forest and could be handed the chance to impress Chris Hughton.

Some Forest fans would dearly love that situation to arise. Others would be equally happy to see the club was its hands of the club’s record signing.

Carvalho didn’t take to Spanish football as expected. He was in and out of the side but managed just three assists from his 36 appearances.

Despite his inconsistencies, plenty of fans have taken to Twitter to suggest he gets another chance.

The 24-year-old has played 67 times for the Reds and has shown flashes of brilliance.

His technical ability has never been in doubt and Hughton has spoken of a desire to add more attacking players to his squad.

The boss will have kept an eye on Carvalho during his loan spell. As a result, it remains to be seen whether he will now earn a chance.

Forest fans want reprieve for Carvalho

Following the season coming to a disappointing end for Almeria, talk has turned towards the magician’s future.

Another season in the second tier is unlikely to see the club activate their purchase option.

Some fans think that is a blessing and are hopeful Hughton hands Carvalho a chance to shine.

The jury is perhaps out on his ability to cut it on a regular basis in England. It’s fair to say, however, that Forest could do a lot worse.

I really hope we use him, and use him properly. Clearly got real quality, but needs to do those things more often and more consistently. With better players around him to compliment him I still think CH could get something out of him
