Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move to appoint Barnsley CEO Dane Murphy this week, according to The Athletic.

The Reds will lose Ioannis Vrentzos this summer, with the Greek employee set to move back to Athens.

As a result, Forest will go in search of a replacement and believe the Barnsley man is ideal.

Following the news, we looked at three players who, if appointed, Murphy could help Forest sign this summer.

Daryl Dike

This would be a massive long shot from a Forest perspective, given that his stock rose at Barnsley last season.

He joined the Tykes on loan from Orlando City and has now returned to the MLS outfit.

There is interest from Everton in the forward and it’ll be interesting to see what happens with him.

Barnsley took the player on loan and included a clause to buy him for £18 million in the temporary arrangement.

Not winning promotion cost the Championship side a chance to add him permanently and he’s since returned to his parent club.

What Murphy could try and set up, however, is a similar deal to the one which Barnsley had.

Landing him on loan would be marvelous for Forest. He found the net nine times last season and proved extremely strong in the attack.

Dike could be a game-changing signing for the Reds.

Alex Mowatt

Another player who Forest fans would love to see check-in to the City Ground is the former Leeds United man.

Contract talks appear to have gone quiet with the 26-year-old and plenty of clubs will hope to pounce.

He has been a revelation at Oakwell in recent years. In total he has made 162 appearances for the Tykes, scoring 20 goals and claiming 23 assists.

Signing the Barnsley skipper would be a real coup for any Championship side and Forest have to prepare to be in the race.

Callum Brittain

Jordan Gabriel is expected to get a chance at right-back next season but the Reds could do with another.

Cyrus Christie has returned to Fulham and looks unlikely to make a return to the City Ground.

Brittain signed for Barnsley in October and has been brilliant during 2020/21.

He fits the modern-day full-back superbly well and made 52 appearances last season.

Brittain would be a fantastic addition for Forest and at 23 he has bags of potential.
