Nottingham Forest released Yuri Ribeiro recently and he now has an offer from Portuguese outfit Vitoria, according to Desportivo de Guimaraes.
The left-back chose not to pen new terms at the City Ground. He spent a lot of last season out of the picture under Chris Hughton.
Vitoria have let both of their left-backs go this summer and are now in need of reinforcements.
Ribeiro has experience in Portugal. He has turned out for Benfica and Rio Ave, prior to his time at Forest.
During his two seasons at the City Ground he played 57 times for the Reds, scoring once and claiming three assists.
Now, he looks set to sign for Vitoria and seal a return to his homeland.
The Primeira Liga outfit finished in seventh place last season and will be hoping for improvements during 2021/22.
Vitoria have a decent reputation in Portugal and the move would represent a pretty decent one for Ribeiro.
He showcased some real quality during his time at Forest.
After signing in 2019 he became a mainstay in Sabri Lamouchi’s team and was largely impressive.
It’s fair to say he didn’t quite continue his fine form last season, enduring some uncertain moments.
He did, however, seem a good member of the dressing room and in that sense, might be a miss to Forest.
Ribeiro leaving: Forest will hope they don’t rue decision
It never really seemed as though Ribeiro would extend his stay at the City Ground.
The youngster seemed destined to head elsewhere and this move represent a desire to return home.
Only time will tell whether Forest live to regret their decision not to try harder to keep him.
It leaves the club in need of a left-back, however. Tyler Blackett is at the club but Gaetan Bong has been deemed surplus by Chris Hughton.
Vitoria is a good club and looks like a sound move for Ribeiro.
Forest will monitor his progress with intrigue and it’ll be interesting to see how he goes with his next club.
