Nottingham Forest flop Gil Dias has found himself a new club. The man who spent time on loan at the City Ground during 2018/19 has remarkably landed at a top European side.

Reds supporters will be almost astonished to find out where he’s rocked up. The Monaco man has been sold to Benfica for a fee in the region of £1.7 million.

Last season, he was sent out on loan to Famalicao. He scored twice and registered three assists from 33 appearances for the Liga NOS outfit.

It’s hard to believe that such form has earned him such a decent move. It has, however, tempted Benfica into a move for the 24-year-old winger.

During 2020/21, Dias showcased his versatility. He featured on both flanks and even played eight times as a left-back.

The Portuguese performer is remembered for all the wrong reasons at Forest. He made 24 appearances, scoring one goal and claiming one assist.

Perhaps his defining moment came during a game at Norwich City. Forest had held a 3-0 lead at Carrow Road before the Canaries pulled two goals back.

With just seconds left on the clock, Dias fluffed a volleyed clearance, allowing Norwich to complete an unlikely comeback.

He rarely impressed the Reds faithful and this latest news will come as as a shock to supporters.

What went wrong for Dias at Forest?

Quite simply he just lacked the required quality and consistency to really make the grade in England.

He often tried his best but was just found lacking when it came to holding any real ability.

Dias was one of three Portuguese players singed that summer and he will link up with Diogo Goncalves at Benfica.

Only Joao Carvalho looked remotely good enough to play in England, with the 24-year-old still contracted to the club.

It’ll be interesting to see how Dias gets on in his homeland and Forest fans will certainly watch on with intrigue.
