Nottingham Forest have loaned young stopper George Shelvey to Mansfield Town for the 2020/21 campaign.

The Reds talent played five games in the National League with Wealdstone last season, keeping one clean sheet.

Now, he will hope to develop his skills working under former Forest favourite Nigel Clough who is the Mansfield manager.

Shelvey looks like being a decent player in the future. At 20, the time now is for him to play football and he’ll hope to do that at One Call Stadium.

The Forest man is the second keeper signed by Mansfield this week. Nathan Bishop has also joined from Manchester United on a similar deal.

Shelvey will initially head to Mansfield as backup for the Red Devils man. Being in and around a Football League squad should bring his game on though.

The Forest youngster hasn’t made a first-team appearance at the City Ground. He was on the bench during the 2019/20 campaign as the Reds lost 2-0 at Chelsea, however.

It will be interesting to see how he gets on at Mansfield – and perhaps more crucially, how much game time he gets.

If he can get some games under his belt he could return to the City Ground ready to challenge for the number one spot.

Forest fans happy with Shelvey deal

Following Friday’s announcement, supporters have been reacting on Twitter to the news.

It would see as though they believe a loan to Mansfield ticks lots of boxes and they hope he can get some games.

Only time will tell whether or not that is to be the case and Shelvey will be keen to get the season started.

After the news had broke regarding the young custodian, supporters took to Twitter and Shelvey had plenty of well wishes.

Here is what Forest supporters had to say.
