Nottingham Forest are edging closer to a key off-field appointment that could shape the long-term future of the football club.
Dane Murphy is set to check in next week. He is currently enjoying some downtime in America after his Barnsley contract expired yesterday.
He will arrive on Trentside to replace Ioannis Vrentzos as the club’s new CEO. The businessman will depart for Greece, ending a four-year association with the club.
Murphy won’t be coming alone. The 39-year-old will head down the M1 with his trusted right-hand man Taymour Roushdi. He will work in a senior operational role at the City Ground.
This looks like a really positive step in the right direction for Forest. Vrentzos hasn’t proved a particularly savvy CEO and a changing of the guard is the right move.
Murphy worked at Barnsley for two years. The club narrowly avoided relegation during his first season at Oakwell, before making the play-offs during 2020/21.
Following today’s update from The Athletic, supporters have been reacting on Twitter. It’s fair to say that plenty are in good spirits with Vrentzos now clearing his desk.
Supporters have wanted to see the back of the former CEO for some time and look to have finally got their wish.
We looked at what Forest supporters were saying as Murphy aims to revive the club’s fortunes off the pitch.
