Billy Fewster left Leeds United yesterday to sign for Nottingham Forest. He will initially join up with the under-23 ranks after coming through the youth academy at Elland Road. Ryan Edmondson and Robbie Gotts have reacted on Instagram following the move.
The 17-year-old was a regular in the club’s under-18 ranks last season. He made 14 appearances, scoring twice for the Whites. Now, the midfielder links up with Forest.
The Reds have been granted category one status for their academy this season. That means they will embark on a new adventure playing in Premier League 2 and in the under-18s Premier League.
As a result, the club have sought to sign talented youngsters to bolster both squads overseen by Andy Reid and Gareth Holmes. Fewster was joined at the City Ground yesterday by Lewis Salmon who signed from Altrincham.
After signing on the dotted line, Fewster said on Instagram that he was delighted and proud to sign for Forest.
What have Edmondson and Gotts said about Fewster joining Forest from Leeds?
Fewster can play in a number of different positions. Typically he’s a defence-minded holding midfielder, although he can play in a two-man midfield. He’s also filled in at right-back.
He came through the ranks at Elland Road and has always done a job for the various youth ranks. Now, he will embark on a new challenge at the City Ground and he’ll hope to impress.
Gotts and Edmondson will hope to eventually earn their Leeds chances, with both players enjoying loan spells in recent years. Edmondson will spend next season with Fleetwood Town.
Fewster officially signed yesterday and afterwards, he received kind messages from both players. The duo seems happy for the player and as a result, they’ll perhaps monitor their former teammates’ progress with intrigue.
