Nottingham Forest have been dealt another major blow in their quest to sign a new striker ahead of the new campaign, with Joe Pigott landing himself another club.

The talisman left AFC Wimbledon at the end of his contract which expired after the 2020/21 campaign. He has now joined the Tractor Boys on a free transfer.

Pigott was in fine form last season. He fired 22 goals as the Dons managed to stave off the threat of relegation from League One. He also claimed five assists during the campaign.

Forest boss Chris Hughton is desperately trying to bolster his squad ahead of next season. New attackers will be sought as the Reds aim to improve on last season’s 17th place finish.

Pigott was linked with a move to Forest back in January. The club opted not to make a swoop, although they were thought to be keen on reviving the interest this summer.

Pigott is a quality centre-forward who scored 54 goals in total for the Dons during his time at the club. At 27 he is at a nice age to continue improving too.

Now, he will aim to help Paul Cook’s team secure a badly-needed return to the Championship during 2021/22.

Have Forest missed a trick over Pigott?

Only time will tell if that is the case, to be honest. Although the striker is talented, he would have been a risky signing for Forest.

Pigott has only played 12 Championship games during his career. They came at the start of his time playing men’s football and he failed to score a single goal.

As a result, that would have made him a somewhat gamble of a signing but he might have been a decent addition on a free.

Pigott moves well, gets into good positions to score goals and also brings other players into games. Now, Forest will have to see whether or not they live to regret this decision.
