Nottingham Forest star Joe Lolley has jumped to the defence of England forward Marcus Rashford after Sunday’s Euro 2020 final.
England were beaten on penalties by Italy in the showpiece finale, with Manchester United ace Rashford missing in the shootout.
Afterwards, he along with Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were subjected to vile racist abuse on social media.
Despite England’s stunning tournament, some so-called supporters couldn’t help themselves, choosing to post abhorrent abuse on various platforms.
England defeated Germany, Ukraine and Denmark in the knockout stages of the tournament, setting up a final with Italy. A 1-1 after extra-time set up the penalty shootout which sadly, England lost.

Lolley was in attendance at the final. He went to Wembley with teammate Joe Worrall, who also went to the semi-final.
After seeing that a mural of Rashford had been defaced in the United man’s hometown of Withington, he took to Instagram.
Some locals have now removed the graffiti, with the community in Rashford’s hometown pulling together in support of one of their own.
Lolley is clearly a fan of the United star. Unsurprisingly he joined the army of people defending the England player.

Forest man offers Rashford emotional message of support
Abusing footballers has become trendy and it’s frankly disgusting. It’s a miserable sign of society in the modern era and social platforms have to do more.
Forest star Lolley comes across as a great bloke. With that in mind, it’s perhaps no surprise that he’s jumped to the defence of Rashford.

The United man apologised to the nation for his missed penalty but he really didn’t need to. England have done the country proud and after a difficult 18 months for the nation, pride has been restored.
Footballers shouldn’t be immune to critique but personal abuse isn’t acceptable. With that in mind, it’s heartwarming to see a Forest star take such a defiant stance and stand alongside Rashford in the wake of Sunday.
