Nottingham Forest completed the signing of American goalkeeper Ethan Horvath on Monday. It would seem as though the player has some star-studded pals, confirming Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer as a good friend during a recent interview.

The 26-year-old arrives at the City Ground on a free transfer. He spent four years at Club Brugge, making 64 appearances for the Belgian giants.

Last season he made an appearance during a Champions League win over Zenit, although he was restricted to just four appearances across the campaign.

Now, he will join a goalkeeping department that features Brice Samba and Jordan Smith at Forest The seven-cap star will hope to wrestle the gloves away from Samba who is the current number one.

It seems as though Horvath has been getting some decent advice too. The legendary Germany goalkeeper Neuer often texts the American with bits of advice.

Forest’s new stopper told Bavarian Football Works: “Manuel Neuer gives me advice via WhatsApp. He’s always been my role model, but he’s very kind and humble. Thanks to my sponsor Adidas we met up in Qatar. If I want advice I turn to him – it helps a lot.”

The 35-year-old has enjoyed a stunning career. He has lifted two Champions League titles and also won the World Cup with Germany.

He has spent 10 years with the Bavarian giants, playing 433 times and keeping 212 clean sheets. Neuer also has 104 caps for the national team, playing as the Germans lost to England at Euro 2020.

Horvath to Forest: Advice from Neuer bodes well for Reds

If Horvath is going to have a role model then he could have worse options than the German legend.

Forest’s new stopper looks to be an exciting addition to the ranks and supporters will look forward to seeing him in action.

The recruitment strategy has been questionable at best in recent years, but this certainly looks like an interesting signing.

With Neuer in his corner, it could bode well for Forest and the hope will be that he can really start to realise his potential at the City Ground.
