Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson is now on the radar of Premier League newcomers Brentford, according to the Independent. Barnsley and Leeds have previously been credited with an interest.

The 20-year-old is back at Forest after starring for Lincoln City on loan last season. He helped the Imps to the League One play-off final, scoring 13 goals and claiming 14 assists along the way.

Now, he’s the subject of fierce interest. Forest, however, will hope to stand firm and keep a player who Chris Hughton has been monitoring closely.

Johnson signed a long-term contract with the Reds in 2019. At that stage, the length of the deal wasn’t disclosed, although Forest look to have some time on their side in that sense.

The report claims that offers have been made for the player. Forest, however, will need an astronomical offer in order to even consider selling their prized academy asset.

Johnson found the net in Forest’s opening pre-season game at Alfreton Town at the weekend. Will Swan score the other goal as the Reds ran out 2-1 winners over the National League North outfit.

Forest fans were crying out for Johnson to be recalled during the January transfer. His loan at Lincoln did kick on though and a full season in League One will have benefitted the youngster.

Forest have to stand firm over Johnson

Although one integral player might have to be sold this summer, it shouldn’t be the young and versatile attacker.

Johnson has eight Forest appearances to his name, but he thoroughly deserves a proper run of games – and they should come under Chris Hughton.

The Reds boss monitored the player closely last season and he’ll sure consider him an important player during 2021/22.

Brentford are now a Premier League club and perhaps that would represent an attractive proposition for Johnson.

At this stage of his development, he needs to be playing football and Forest should give him plenty of opportunities during 2021/22.

Johnson looks destined for the very top. For now, however, the Reds simply have to stand firm.
