Nottingham Forest defeated Port Vale 2-0 in their latest pre-season friendly, making it two wins from two. Goals from Alex Mighten and Jack Colback ensured a relatively comfortable afternoon for Chris Hughton’s men.

Forest once again utilised a blend of experienced first-team players with a sprinkle of youthful exuberance. A number of under-23 players were handed the chance to impress, with defender Baba Fernandes starting the game.

The Reds have only made one addition to their ranks this summer. Ethan Horvath has checked in from Club Brugge and the goalkeeper is the solitary signing so far.

During yesterday’s behind closed doors clash, it was Mighten who caught the eye. His fizzing effort put Forest into the lead and led to fans raving about him on Twitter.

The young Forest player looks like being a future star. Plenty called for Hughton to utilise him more last season when he was largely used from the bench.

He made 27 appearances in all competitions during 2020/21, firing three goals and claiming a single assist.

At 19 there is plenty of time on his side, although the fan base will clearly want Mighten to become a first-team regular during the forthcoming season.

Forest fans rave about Mighten

It may only have been a friendly contest but Mighten’s quality was there for all to see. He tormented the Vale defenders throughout and enjoyed plenty of success down the left-hand side.

The youngster is raw, direct and pretty exciting and the League Two outfit simply didn’t know how to stop him from strutting his stuff.
