Dane Murphy has officially been unveiled as the new CEO at Nottingham Forest. Following his arrival, supporters have been reacting on Twitter.
Murphy replaces Greek businessman Ioannis Vrentzos who will remain on the board of directors. He will, however, have a less active role in the day-to-day running of the club.
The new CEO joins from Barnsley where he achieved brilliant things. He transformed the club from relegation fodder to being on the cusp of the Premier League in just 12 months.
Murphy was born in Connecticut and spent time with DC United, VfL Osnabruck and New York Cosmos as a player.
He retired as a player earlier than most but has stayed in football since hanging up his boots in 2015.
Murphy has no time to delay at the City Ground. Boss Chris Hughton is desperate to add to his squad and the new CEO will need to get to work quickly.
Forest fans excited about Murphy arrival
On the pitch in recent times, the club’s loyal supporters haven’t had too much to should about. Forest were in the play-off places for much of the 2019/20 campaign but somehow managed to slip out on the final day of the season.
Hughton was forced to do a firefighting mission last term but more will be expected during 2021/22. Now the new CEO is in place, he will hope to see the club’s recruitment kick-started somewhat.
Given Murphy’s clear strategy with regards to recruitment, it does look like an exciting time to be a Forest fan once again.
Following today’s news, the fan base have taken to Twitter to rave about the 35-year-old’s arrival on Trentside. Here is what they had to say in welcoming the new CEO into his role.
